Explore the marsh, admire the niaouli trees and wetlands, enjoy the natural scenery, and spot rare species. An unforgettable walk awaits you!
From the entrance gate, take the main track for about 400 meters until you reach the start of the Grandes Fougères Trail, located on your left (point no. 1). The route begins with a 170-meter wooden boardwalk, making the area accessible for people with reduced mobility (PRM). The trail, easy and relatively flat, crosses the undergrowth before entering a humid forest zone, shaded by tree ferns. A gentle climb then leads you to the Pinus area (point no. 2).
A little higher up (point no. 3), an orientation table offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view, allowing you to admire Farino, Moindou, and Sarraméa, with the ocean in the background.
From the Pinus area (point no. 2), turn left toward the Grand Kaori Trail. After about twenty minutes of walking, you will reach a junction (point no. 45). Turn right to join the panoramic track.
Follow the trail that runs along the forested ridgeline: you will arrive at a charming small marsh, where majestic niaoulis grow literally “with their feet in the water.”
The route then leaves the forest and returns to the orientation table (point no. 3), offering its breathtaking 360° view over Farino, Moindou, Sarraméa, and the sea.
The return is a gentle descent along the main track (panoramic road), steadily going downhill until you reach the park entrance.
Crossing the humid forest, this trail offers many attractions, particularly botanical and ornithological: cagou, chain parakeet, Caledonian crow, and many other species can be observed. The niaouli marsh is also a particularly rare and remarkable ecosystem within the central mountain range.
