A captivating trail through forests and scenic viewpoints, where the cathedral banyan and the old bread oven reveal the richness of local wildlife and flora
The trail begins on a wide track that climbs steadily up to the Pinus Area (point no. 2). Continue along the main track after the rest area to reach the Carpolepis Area (point no. 4). From there, turn left and enter the humid forest, shaded by towering tree ferns. A short detour will take you to the impressive cathedral banyan (Ficus prolixa), well worth the few extra minutes.
A little further on, at point no. 39, follow the direction of the False Fig Area (point no. 28). You will then reach the Pic Monnier viewpoint, before gradually descending towards the Codias Area (point no. 22). The trail then climbs again towards the visitor centre: after a short ascent, you will pass the old “bread oven”, a colonial-era relic testifying to past human presence in this remote area (point no. 38).
This trail is particularly appreciated for its diversity, offering a rich mix of viewpoints, wildlife and plant life.
