Mouli Beach

Ouvéa

New Caledonia is certainly one of the most beautiful destinations in the world for the beauty of its beaches. In Ouvéa, one of the archipelago’s Loyalty Islands, the plage de Mouli rises to the top of postcard destinations: turquoise water and white sand lined with coconut palms stretch for several kilometers to the delight of visitors. Higher up, the pont de Mouli, the only bridge between the south and north of the island, is also well worth a visit!

The Loyalty Island of Ouvéa is less than 40 minutes by flight from Nouméa-Magenta domestic airport. Once there, it’s a good idea to rent a car or scooter (book in advance) to get around the island. Mouli beach and the bridge of the same name lie to the south of Ouvéa. It is the only bridge linking the south and north of the island. From the airport in the district of Hulup, allow around 20 minutes by car to reach the tribe of Lékiny.

  • Access to the beach and bridge is free.
  • The view from Mouli bridge offers a beautiful vantage point over the cliffs of Lékiny.
  • Beware, swimming is prohibited on the Lékiny bay side below the bridge (customary reserve).
  • Remember to bring sun protection (sun cream, hat, sunglasses).
Top 5 activities to do at Mouli Beach

1. Diving in turquoise waters

Savour the pleasure of diving into warm, translucent water, in the middle of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! Rock back and forth on your board, take a dip, splash around… everything you need for a moment of solace in the turquoise Pacific lagoon as long as you’ve got the right gear: hat, SPF 50 (ocean-friendly!) sunscreen and sunglasses…

2. Relax on the white sandy beach

A veritable postcard setting with its white sand and crystal-clear water, Mouli beach epitomises farniente. There’s no better place to illustrate Ouvéa’s nickname, the island “closest to paradise”. The mile-long stretch of sand invites you to stroll with your feet in the water to the end of the sandy lagoon surrounded by crystal-clear water. As for the lagoon, it promises refreshing baths. Just keep in mind the sun, which beats down hard at this latitude!

3. Watching rays and fish from Mouli bridge

Completed in 1984, the pont de Mouli crosses the arm of the sea that separates the island of Mouli from the main island of Ouvéa. It is thus the only crossing point between the south and north of Ouvéa. The footbridge undoubtedly offers the most beautiful view of the island: transparent lagoon, Lékiny cliffs… But this marvellous viewpoint serves another purpose: rays, tortoises and all manner of colourful fish can be seen bobbing about underwater, captivating passers-by. They enter the bay via the Lifou pass.

4. Take a selfie in a postcard setting

This one might just be the best part of your stay in New Caledonia! Attention influencers: you have stepped onto one of the most beautiful beach landscapes in the world. The picture-perfect turquoise background is all set, all that’s left is to strike a pose! One thing’s for sure: you’ll make your friends and social networks drool with envy.

5. Watch the sun set over the water

How can you make the most of your visit to Mouli beach? By admiring the sunset from the Paradis d’Ouvéa hotel. With a cocktail in hand and your feet brushing the sand, enjoy every passing second as the most beautiful pink and orange shades drape over the horizon.
