New Caledonia is certainly one of the most beautiful destinations in the world for the beauty of its beaches. In Ouvéa, one of the archipelago’s Loyalty Islands, the plage de Mouli rises to the top of postcard destinations: turquoise water and white sand lined with coconut palms stretch for several kilometers to the delight of visitors. Higher up, the pont de Mouli, the only bridge between the south and north of the island, is also well worth a visit!

The Loyalty Island of Ouvéa is less than 40 minutes by flight from Nouméa-Magenta domestic airport. Once there, it’s a good idea to rent a car or scooter (book in advance) to get around the island. Mouli beach and the bridge of the same name lie to the south of Ouvéa. It is the only bridge linking the south and north of the island. From the airport in the district of Hulup, allow around 20 minutes by car to reach the tribe of Lékiny.

      A veritable postcard setting with its white sand and crystal-clear water, Mouli beach epitomises farniente. There’s no better place to illustrate Ouvéa’s nickname, the island “closest to paradise”. The mile-long stretch of sand invites you to stroll with your feet in the water to the end of the sandy lagoon surrounded by crystal-clear water. As for the lagoon, it promises refreshing baths. Just keep in mind the sun, which beats down hard at this latitude!

          Completed in 1984, the pont de Mouli crosses the arm of the sea that separates the island of Mouli from the main island of Ouvéa. It is thus the only crossing point between the south and north of Ouvéa. The footbridge undoubtedly offers the most beautiful view of the island: transparent lagoon, Lékiny cliffs… But this marvellous viewpoint serves another purpose: rays, tortoises and all manner of colourful fish can be seen bobbing about underwater, captivating passers-by. They enter the bay via the Lifou pass.
