Crooked Colors

Australian electronic trio Crooked Colours ventured to New Caledonia with a bold idea: to turn the islands’ everyday soundtrack into music. They captured the whispering lagoon, cascading jungle waterfalls, lively market scenes, traditional Kanak melodies and the vibrant rhythm of Nouméa.

From these sounds, they crafted Sounds of New Caledonia — a bespoke track inspired entirely by the destination.

Australian National Swimming team

As they prepared for the Olympic Games, members of the Australian national swimming team selected New Caledonia as the setting for their intensive training camp. Their days alternated between focused sessions in world-class pools and restorative breaks by the lagoon or at the iconic Amédée Lighthouse.

They discovered a destination where elite sporting conditions meet the calm and beauty of a South Pacific escape, a place that motivates athletes and captivates holidaymakers alike.

The Today Show

The Today Show spent a week discovering the best of New Caledonia and sharing it with viewers across Australia. From the vibrant bays of Nouméa and paddleboarding at Anse Vata Beach to French pastries and island hopping across clear blue lagoons, the team experienced the destination at its brightest. They also joined the fun at the iconic Bourail Agricultural Fair with whip cracking, potato peeling and the famous flip-flop throwing contest.

Their highlights offer a fresh look at New Caledonia as the ideal winter escape, combining adventure, culture and warm island hospitality.

Annabelle Ronnfeldt

Move With Us coach Annabelle Ronnfeldt traded the gym for the streets of Nouméa as she took on the Mobil International Marathon, and quickly found that the experience was much more than a race. Alongside runners from around the world, she mixed the excitement of marathon day with swims in turquoise lagoons, cultural discoveries and unforgettable moments exploring the islands with her mum.

“It was honestly such an incredible trip… we will absolutely be back!” she says.

Catriona Rowntree

In this special Getaway episode filmed in New Caledonia, Catriona Rowntree joins one of the top day trips from Nouméa to the breathtaking Amédée Island. Between climbing the iconic lighthouse, relaxing by the lagoon and enjoying fresh island cuisine, she had one hope for the day: swimming alongside a green turtle in the crystal clear water.

Watch her full adventure and discover why Amédée Island is one of New Caledonia’s most memorable island escapes.

Dean Cropp – Barefoot

Sailing filmmaker Dean Cropp, captain of Barefoot, set sail for New Caledonia on a wide-ranging expedition around the archipelago. His journey took him from the Loyalty Islands and the untamed east coast to the remote far north, the vast west coast, the striking red landscapes of the south and finally the turquoise expanse of Nouméa’s lagoon — always in search of quiet anchorages and open horizons.

Through his camera, the UNESCO-listed lagoon and the rhythm of life on the water reveal a side of the Caillou that is both elemental and calming, offering an intimate glimpse of New Caledonia from a true sailor’s point of view.

VONU Surf Trip

The VONU surf trip took a group of Australian free surfers deep into New Caledonia’s expansive coral lagoon for a true boat-based adventure. Guided by swell and trade winds, they tracked down remote reef breaks and spent their days carving through uncrowded, glassy line-ups before anchoring under star-filled skies.

Their voyage reveals New Caledonia as a wild South Pacific playground, a dream for surfers who crave space, adventure and crystal-clear water.
