A legendary sailing race around New Caledonia’s main island, the Groupama Race gathers crews from around the world for a thrilling ocean challenge across reefs, trade winds and a UNESCO World Heritage lagoon.
Organised by the Cercle Nautique Calédonien, the New Caledonia Groupama Race is the island’s most iconic sailing competition. This international event brings together passionate sailors for an extraordinary challenge: a complete circumnavigation of Grande Terre — around 654 nautical miles (about 1,200 km) through reefs, atolls, islets and the turquoise waters of a UNESCO World Heritage lagoon.
Starting and finishing in Nouméa, crews of monohulls and multihulls face the elements and shifting trade winds in a demanding yet spectacular regatta. Onshore, the race village offers a festive atmosphere with local stalls, live music, entertainment, and daily race updates.
Combining competition, camaraderie and breathtaking scenery, the Groupama Race is more than a regatta — it’s a true ocean adventure in paradise.
