Skippered by Manu, the Nekweta taxi boat will take you to Green Island, classed as a “strict nature reserve”. It’s the perfect place for a swim and a snorkel around the coral reefs, or for relaxing in the shade of filao and acacia trees. It takes about half an hour to walk around the island.
Nekweta is also a shuttle service, taking visitors to the best surfing spots on the reef and to the mouth of the La Néra river where you’ll find the best swells. The waves found around the Bourail Pass are easily among the top 20 in the South Pacific.
Manu, who knows the Bourail Lagoon like the back of his hand, also offers eco-discovery tours. Founder of the Bwärä Marine Turtle association and a born-and-bred local, he will talk to you about the region's history, Kanak legends and what can be done to protect the turtles and the environment.
