Remains of the Japanese mine near Yaté.
This Japanese-run mine was operational until the Second World War and closed after Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were expelled and some of them were imprisoned. The remains of the iron ore mine are impressive and you can see a cliff with its layers of red laterite. All that remains now are the concrete columns that carried the discharge hoses to the beach and completely rusted conveyor belts.
