Opened in December 2019, the Sainte-Marie Urban Park is a peaceful natural haven in the heart of Nouméa. Covering 3 hectares between the city and the mangrove, it offers a wide range of activities for all ages.
Nature lovers can explore the Biodiversity House, a space dedicated to raising awareness about the environment and local ecosystems. A footbridge, inaugurated in 2021, leads to a scenic trail through the mangrove, offering an immersive experience in this unique habitat. Two wooden piers provide an ideal vantage point for observing the rich flora and fauna.
For leisure and recreation, the park features a multigenerational play area: wooden play structures for young children, a 400 m² spider net for climbing, outdoor fitness equipment, a games zone with a teqball table and slackline posts, as well as chess tables. An open-air amphitheatre, facing the mangrove, hosts performances, concerts, and cultural events throughout the year.
Visitors can unwind at the many picnic tables, shaded benches, and deckchairs overlooking the mangrove. A snack bar and ice cream stand are also available for a refreshing break.
As part of its environmental commitment, over 200 trees adapted to coastal conditions have been planted, and the park’s buildings were designed using tropical bioclimatic architecture principles. Easily accessible, the park connects to the pedestrian and cycling paths of the Pierre-Vernier promenade, making it an ideal destination for a nature-filled outing.
