Built in 1912, the imposing Saint-Joseph church stands facing the sea, flanked by a beautiful colonial building.
The Saint-Joseph area includes Takedji, a tribe whose origins were from Wallis Island in the Pacific some 2,000 km away, and the Héo Tribe, whose inhabitants descend from the populations that lived on the Beautemps-Beaupré atoll before the arrival of the missionaries. Facing the sea stands the Church of St. Joseph (1912), famous for its vaulted wooden ceiling in the shape of an inverted boat hull, its pulpit is of kohu wood, and its statue of Christ is carved in black kaori wood and draped...
