Curious? Set off on a quest for this enigmatic abyss, which, as you will discover, reveals itself only at certain times of the year...
A brief introduction to the legend of Charybdis...
Originally, Charybdis was the daughter of Gaia, the Earth Mother, and Poseidon, the god of the sea, and she was known as the goddess of tides. However, this goddess had a monstrous appetite and regularly stole livestock along the coasts of Sicily. One day, the hungry deity made the mistake of devouring Hercules' cattle, which led Zeus, the king of the gods and father of Hercules, to strike her down and hurl her into the sea. Charybdis then transformed into a gigantic swirling abyss...
The abyss located along Lake Yaté derives its name from this legend, even though none of the locals have (yet) reported witnessing whirlpools forming on the lake... Nevertheless, it remains shrouded in mystery: if you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of it (and find it) without it being submerged by water, and you manage to approach it closely enough, you'll see that it gives the impression that spelunking could be possible within its depths. However, do remain cautious! The stability of the abyss is still unknown to this day.
