The watermelon festival is the only event on the island of Tiga, held in January. It's also an opportunity for visitors to discover the reality of daily life on the island.
In phosphate-rich, waterless soil, the fruit proliferated. The seeds, planted in the middle of the year, start to bear in December. Watermelon growth explodes. Harvesting takes place in January. It proves so rich that a festival to celebrate it has been organized every year since 2017.
